Solar panels with or without a battery
A battery lets you use in the evening part of the electricity produced during the day. Useful for independence, it is not always worthwhile financially.

What a battery is for
Without a battery, the electricity produced is used immediately by the appliances running at that moment. The surplus goes to the grid, potentially sold on.
With a battery, part of that surplus is stored for later use, especially in the evening.
Points to watch
- A battery increases the upfront cost of the system
- Its lifespan may be shorter than the panels'
- The gain depends heavily on your evening consumption
- It brings independence but rarely pays for itself alone
Should you install one?
It depends on your profile: whether someone is home during the day, evening consumption, how much you value independence, and your budget.
The profitability comparator shows both scenarios with the same assumptions, without forcing a favourable result.
